Yeah…I think those of us who are truly lifelong learners and with a passion for our work (e.g. Yammerites!) don’t see this stuff as “extra” – it is, as you say, fun! No need to be brave about attending a TeachMeet (virtual or otherwise) – you don’t have to present if you don’t want to. But I reckon you’d have HEAPS to offer people – in your Yammer profile you talk about your quick leap into the world of ICT…I reckon people would love to hear about that journey, and what inspired you to go down that road (because a lot of people don’t want to, no matter how many TimTams you bribe them with .

Great post Ronda. I haven’t been to a virtual Teach Meet yet but you have inspired me to get organised ( and brave) next time I hear of one. I think a lot of teachers see PD as more work rather than the fun that we know it is.

Hahaha I recall us having a discussion about papercraziness before, Neil! The difficulty I have with having expectations of paperlessness with colleagues is that I’m so tuned in to making accommodations for kids with special needs, that I instinctively make accommodations for people who refuse to enter the 21st century…but I know I’m contributing to learned helplessness. Argh!

Great post, I love the term ‘Cutting Edge Tech Hipster Guru’ and will be shamelessly ripping you off and using this term in real life to refer to those who fit the model.

Further though, journalism and technology seems to have come to a point where someone takes their own peronal experience or opinion and extrapolates that out to assume everyone else feels the same. I mean if ‘I know only one person who loves working in Word: my 4-year-old.’ is true the writer really needs to get out more and talk to real people.

Hey Jessica!
Thanks for your positive feedback. There are still lots of gaps that I’m yet to fill in there, but it’s getting there! Taking a bit longer than normal to get organised because I’m learning how to work in a new way But I think it also reflects the nature of my special ed classroom – flexible, proactive and reactive at the same time, and slightly chaotic!

Do you have a blog? Just reading about your school context – sounds like I could learn a lot from you!
